SAMOTHRACE: in the island of the Great Gods
Samothrace is beautiful as well as the others Greek islands but absolutely unusual for who knows the Greek archipelago. It is located to the south-west of Alessandropoli, and it is characterized by forests of oaks and plane-trees, waterfalls, wonderful beaches and variegate walls of rock. Samothrace is a small mountainous island with the summit of the Fengari mount that touches 1611 meters. A legend says that Omero could see the War of Troy from the Posidone top. Legends to part, on the top of Samothrace’s mountains the climate is fresh and humid. It can reserve the surprise of the rain also when on the coast the sun shines. The sanctuary of the Great Gods of Paleopolis belongs to the ancient times of Samothrace splendor. It was an important religious center. The Cult of the Great Gods was introduced from the inhabitants of Thrace around the 1000 BC and is still a mysterious story. In Samothrace island arrived famous personages for the initiation ritual and it was famous for its mystical charge. When in the IV century AD a law was maiden to forbid the pagan rituals the island fell in the oblivion. Anyway in Samothrace there is still a mystical atmosphere that attracts many young people looking for a spiritual place, but also many persons who want to visit the Sanctuary of Great Gods, its charming beaches and the natural beauty of the island.
